                                The most important questions are:

What is obesity, overweight?  factors lead to weight gain?

Picture shows two groups of factors leading to weight gain. The first group includes sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet, overeating, heredity; the second major factor is hormonal imbalance. All factors are shown as allegory: big paunch, sofa supported by fat legs, giant hamburger and bear, zoomed genes, imbalanced scale.

Obesity is generally defined as having more body fat than is optimally healthy, usually 20% - 30% or more over an  individual's ideal body weight.
Being overweight is a common condition, especially where food supplies are plentiful   and   lifestyles are sedentary.
A healthy body requires a minimum amount of fat for the proper functioning of the hormonal, reproductive, and immune systems, as thermal insulation, as shock absorption for sensitive areas, and as energy for future use. Nevertheless, the accumulation of too much storage fat can impair movement and flexibility, and can alter the appearance of the body.
Excessive weight can result in many serious health problems, including hypertension, type II diabetes mellitus (non-insulin dependent diabetes), increased risk for coronary disease, increased unexplained heart attack, hyperlipidemia, infertility, and a higher prevalence of colon, prostate, endometrial, and possibly, breast cancer.
"Apple-shaped" individuals who store most of their weight around the waist and abdomen are at greater risk for cancer,  heart disease, stroke, and diabetes than "pear-shaped" people whose extra pounds settle primarily in their hips and thighs.

Overweight and obesity can also give rise to several secondary conditions, including:

                                 •  arthritis and other orthopedic problems, such as lower back pain
                                 •  heartburn
                                 •  high cholesterol levels
                                 •  high blood pressure
                                 •  menstrual irregularities or cessation of menstruation (amenorhhea)
                                 •  shortness of breath that can be incapacitating

                                 •  skin disorders, arising from the bacterial breakdown of sweat and                                             cellular material in thick folds of skin or from increased friction                                                   between  folds
The general reason for excessive weight gain is: more calories are consumed than the body burns, and the excess calories  are stored as fat (adipose) material. However, the exact cause arises from a complex combination of factors.
Genetic factors significantly influence how the body regulates appetite and the rate at which it turns food into energy (metabolic rate).
A genetic predisposition to weight gain, however, does not automatically mean that a person will be obese.
Eating traditions and patterns of physical activity also play a significant role. It`s known, lack of exercise and an unhealthy diet like fast foods, heavy fatty or fried foods, snacking in between meals and intake of alcoholic drinks or sugary soda drinks are the usual suspects.
Psychological factors, such as depression and low self-esteem may play an important role in weight gain too.

     Obesity caused by hormonal imbalance

The hormonal imbalance is the second major factor leading to weight gain.
   What is “Hormones”?
These are the natural chemicals released by cells in our body that act as messengers to transport  signals from one cell to another via the blood stream.
The hormones are a part of the “endocrine” system controlled by the pituitary gland and they affect the cell metabolism depending upon the kind of signals they receive. Depending on  whether cell  metabolism increases or decreases, the body will either loss or gain weight.
In women, usually, hormonal ebb and flow occur during the pre-teen years, later - menstruation cycle, perimenopausal and menopausal ages.
stress, emotional tensions, psychological factors and the unhealthy lifestyle can intensify all symptoms and lead to more several disorders like  depression or irritability, difficulty sleeping,  hot flashes, osteoporosis and  bone loss, as well as breast cancer.
In addition, as a woman ages, her metabolic levels decrease thereby making her susceptible to gaining weight.
In men, hormonal imbalances occur because of dietary factors like a high fat, carbohydrates and low fiber content as well as intake of alcoholic drinks or sugary soda drinks.
It can give rise to several disorders such as osteoporosis and bone loss,  impotence or erectile dysfunction, depression,  weight gain or weight and muscle loss,  memory loss, breast enlargement, and others.

Also certain medications like antidepressants, anti-hypertensives, mood elevators, and some drugs can cause weight gain.
As well as some steroids, hormone replacement therapy, and even oral contraceptives may also cause continuing weight gain.

        Consequently
                  Be aware!
Don`t make a muddle of obesity caused by general factors:
(sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet, overeating, heredity)
and  obesity caused by hormonal imbalance.

These are the dissimilar cures consisting from different points.
                                                                                  Absolutely different!
